Canadians have laboured over the understanding of their own identity. While the rest of the world may have a solid and positive impression of Canadians, we often seem confused about our own identity and characteristics. What does it mean to be Canadian? What does a Canadian look like? Many factors have made it impossible for Canadians to embrace one single, clear image about ourselves.
Canada is a young country. Identities take time to develop. Furthermore, Canada is a huge nation, the second largest in the world. Our population is small and scattered throughout the various provinces.
We are a great nation of rich diversity. We boast two national languages, and embrace thousands of First Nations and millions of immigrants. There is no correct picture of what a Canadian even looks like!
